Owl Bunting Feature

Upon opening up the Melbourne Herald Sun newspaper last week, we were thrilled to find our very own Owl Bunting featured on page 11 of the insert Home magazine.

The Herald Sun is one of Melbournes largest and most read newspaper and we were delighted to have been invited to feature in it.

Guess who is now busily sewing owl buntings??

Road 15 by Sweetwater

We're a little excited at Missy Mack.
We just received a pre order shipment of the awesome new range by Sweetwater, "Road 15."
I've always been a huge Sweetwater fan. I loved 'Authentic', and made a quilt for Simon out of their 'Pure' range, and how cool was 'Noteworthy?' I still have a jelly roll in the Noteworthy range, that I will eventually make something pretty with. Eventually.

So, 'Road 15' is typical in fantastic Sweetwater style. We have little prints of maps and streets, including sweet houses and trees. But there is something else about this range that I think is really cool. A while back when designing this range, Sweetwater asked for some input from their blog readers. They asked for readers address's! Yep, so I added our address, and imagine our shock and delight when (after a few minutes of searching!) Simon found our address! One cannot get any cooler than that!

So, I'm delighted to share my newest favourite range of fabric with you. Whilst I think it's brilliant, it's also a fab range for boys with the great colours of aqua, red, green with bits of black and grey.

'Road 15' can be found in our Etsy shop, along with another new range, 'S'more Love,' by Julie Comstock of Cosmo Cricket. They can also be found on our eBay page (our eBay shop coming soon!)
Prices start from $34.00 for Jelly Rolls and Layer Cakes.
We are also getting some bolts from the Road 15 range, due in around August.

Happy sewing!

Chevrons and Circles - Two quilts for two special girls

Mid last year, I had a lovely email from a mum, Katie, who wanted her two young daughters to have a special quilt of their own. And so Katie and I set about on a journey together! Numerous emails and catch ups followed, with chats about colours, styles and sizes.

The brief was two large single bed sized quilts in the same fabrics, but one quilt a chevron inspired, and the second a ruffled circle. Katie, her two lovely daughters and I met up at Patchwork with Gail B to find fabrics, and together we demolished a corner of the store as we chose our fabrics. It was wonderful to meet Katie and her daughters, and to choose the fabrics together.

The results are two very pretty and very feminine quilts. It was a delight to make these quilts for Katie, and then to be able to deliver them to her personally was wonderful. It's not often you get to see the happy response when someone buys and receives their quilt.

Thank you Katie for letting my make your quilts! I hope they become treasured and loved heirlooms in your family.

The details:
A lot of the fabric used are from the following ranges, Coquette by Art Gallery, Summer Loving by Art Gallery and Sophie by Moda, with a handful of 1930's prints and other plains. The quilts have each girls name embroidered on the front bottom right corner of their quilt. They have a Bamboo batting, and were beautifully machine quilted by my friend Clair (just before Christmas too - you champ Clair!!) They both have a simple pink polka dot backing, with personalised labels and a photo for each girl.

What do you think?

Navy and Lime Love

Remember this quilt a while back?

It sold on Etsy a few months ago to a lovely home in the United States.

But, the quilt hasn't been forgotten. It was pinned by some innocent person on Pinterest, and is now floating around on various baby and nursery boards. A little bit of excitement here, yes!

It's become so popular that it was even used as inspiration for a Scrapbooking Card making challenge.
Christine, from Practical Scrappers, sent me a message to say that my navy and lime quilt was used as inspiration for a card making contest on their blog. You can check out all the amazing cards here. There are some very talented ladies out there!

So, it looks like navy and lime is a winning combination, especially for nurseries. And especially for a boy. It's nice to see a colour combination other than just baby blue.

So, if you're thinking of how to style your nursery - try navy and lime!

A winner...

Thank you for helping me to celebrate the birth of our boy, our engagement anniversary, and my 1 year of having an Etsy shop!

Deborah is the winner of our little giveaway, and she chose to win the Aneela Hoey Jelly Roll. So, what was in the mystery box? Not telling! But don't worry - it wasn't just a dirty old sock. Oh well, it will just have to go back in my stash!

Congratulations Deborah! I'll email you shortly to get your postal address.

I better get back to my little man and his gorgeous smiles!

By the way, the photos are of a little needlecase and present I made for my brother in laws girlfriend for Christmas. She loves knitting and is just starting to get into needlework.

Celebration Giveaway!

Giveaway closed!
Thanks for your entries, winner announced soon!

We've just had a baby.
My husband, Simon and I got engaged two years ago.
And it's officially one year since I opened my Etsy shop.

I feel like celebrating! Who's with me??

To celebrate these wonderful things I'm having a giveaway.

I started off selling handmade owl bunting in my Etsy shop, followed by patchwork quilts, patterns and nursery accessories. And now of course I have also added Moda Jelly Rolls, Layer Cakes and Charm Packs.

So I thought a giveaway for a Moda Jelly Roll and a Chevron PDF Patchwork Quilt Pattern might be in order.

The "Sew Stitchy" range by Aneela Hooey is a wonderful celebration of all things sewing related, including hexagons, pins and even a few little birds. It features fresh colours of pink, aqua, grey, lime green, red and white. It's a fun and happy range, and seeing as this is a fun and happy time of my life - I thought it would suit!
I have these Jelly Rolls available in my shop, here.

Now, here is how my giveaway will work.
For you have a choice to make.

Either, you can enter to win the Sew Stitchy Jelly Roll, and a Chevron Quilt PDF Pattern.
Or, you can enter to win the mystery box prize.
What is the mystery box prize? Well, that would defeat the purpose of the mystery, wouldn't it??

But, I have this box, in my sewing room. And in that box could be piles of fabric, or even more jelly rolls, or perhaps a sewing book or pattern? Or all of the above? Or maybe, it might contain an old pair of socks.... or one of Jonathans bibs....
Oh, the intrigue.

So, this is your gamble. You can either play it safe, or try for the mystery box prize. The choice is yours and entirely up to you!

So to enter...

- Leave a comment on this post. Make sure you mention in your comment which prize you would like, either the Jelly Roll and pattern, or the mystery box.
- For an extra entry, share my giveaway on your blog. Make sure you let me know though!
- And for another extra entry, like our page on Facebook. If you are already a 'liked' friend of Missy Mack, you will get an extra entry too. Again, make sure you let me know!

Giveaway is open to Australian residents only (sorry international people - I'll have a giveaway for you guys soon!! I promise!) and will close on the 14th of February (naww! Valentines Day!) at 6pm AEDST.

Good luck, and thanks for sharing in my celebrations!

Moda Fabric

Gosh.
Getting any sort of letters or mail in the post box is exciting.
Surely I'm not the only one who gets a little thrill when something other than a bill is found in the letter box?
Being a visual and tactile sort of girl, I much prefer recieving something by snail mail, rather than email.

So, of course - receiving fabric in the mail would have to be even more exciting, yes?
Yes. It is!

Our latest fun items that comes in the mail is Moda Fabric! Yum, yum!

Here at Missy Mack, we now have a small little collection of Moda Pre Cuts available in our Etsy Shop for purchase. I'm quite a Moda fan, and I love the versatility and fun of Jelly Rolls and Layers Cakes.
