What's wrong with yellow?

I've seen blue quilts, pink quilts, red quilts and green quilts. I've seen blue and yellow quilts, or purple and yellow quilts. But I've never seen an all yellow quilt. This thought struck me the other day, quite out of the blue, and I've been thinking about it ever since.

Why don't we use yellow as the predominant colour in our sewing? I'm sure we all love yellow, I mean, it's the colour of happiness! It's a bright and cheerful colour, and you can't help but smile when you're surrounded by yellow. Nature uses yellow in abundance, from the bright sun, through to the sand on the beach, and all the hundreds of yellow flowers.

Perhaps, a whole quilt in yellow is just too much of a good thing? Maybe yellow is great, but only in small doses? Well, I intend to find out.

So I've issued myself a challenge. To create a quilt entirely using yellow coloured fabric. No pink. No green. No blue. No nothing else but yellow.

And I was quite suprised when I raided my stash and realised I actually had alot of yellow fabric. And not only yellow fabric, but yellow fabric that all went with each other. I only ended up buying 2 small bits of yellow from work, just to add to the pile.

(excuse the dark photo. They really are quite 'sunshiney!')

So, my goal? To turn this pile of sunshine fabric into something pretty. Something that doesn't make one reach for the sunglasses. But a quilt that does justice to the beautiful colour.

*gulp*
Well, that's the plan anyway. I guess we will only find out in time whether a full yellow quilt actually looks good or not!

I also love yellow, and I think a quilt all in yellows would be great. I do have one that is all oranges/yellows and it is very cheerful.
Enter me in the draw too please.

Hi,
Yellow is a lovely color that I use a lot but I've never made a quilt with only yellow fabric. A quilt like that should feel very sunny and bright and I think it would make me feel happy.

Yellow hasn't really made an appearance in my stash except on the odd occasion, but I have noticed that Orange has started to feature more often lately so I guess I am just one step away from Yellow. Can't wait to see your sunny creation.

I'm not a huge fan of yellow. I do however, like the material colors you are showing! I like the softer, buttery colors best. I am really looking forward to seeing your quilt!

Hello Sam, I have very few yellow and red materials in my stash. If you look at a garden red and yellow really stand out this is especially true with roses.Have a good weekend.

Good luck with your all-yellow quilt.. I love yellow too and like you have quite a bit of it in my stash, but never made an all-yellow quilt. Can't wait to see it

Well those photos sure show that yellow can stand on its own. Must admit the only one colour quilt I've made is red, though I have though of oranges.
look forward to seeing your finished project.
Hugs,
Sharon

How interesting, I love yellow and have never thought of making an all yellow quilt. I want to run up to my sewing room, pull all the yellows from my stash and see what I can do with them.

Congrats on reaching your milestone!

I love yellows of any shade. I find I use it quite often in my quilts and keep running out before other colors. I think an all yellow object would be beautiful if you keep it to basic light, medium and dark shades. Anxious to see your results.
